Bloody Awful Poetry Day 4: Faith tries an Anacreontic (What? It’s a real thing…honestly)

Anacreontic
By Faith, circa Dirty Girls
Medium: Poetry
Rating: PG

Love is short, life is fleeting
Grab your fun, with heart beating.
In the end we are all toast,
Slayers know that more than most.

Well done Buffy, got your guy
Vampire’s better, second try
Does it matter that he’s dead?
“What the hell,” you must have said.
“Pecs defined and washboard abs
I won’t think of who he’s stabbed.
Pleasure keeps the soul alive
Why disapprove? Why deprive?”

Drink the vodka, have a cig
Life is tiny, death so big.
Ash and dust is all we are
Vampires know that best by far.

(Not to make this a full poetry lesson, but this rare form demands seven syllables to a line, musing on alcohol, pleasure and the imminence of death. It just seemed very… Faith.)

Soul-stirring ballad up next…
